3. Coaching Topic: The Art of Letting
Spring is a time of rebirth
and new beginnings. But it is also a time of letting go. The weather warms and we start moving again shaking off winter's call of
hibernation. Our own desire to clean up and clear out emerges resulting
from years of tradition and the memories of our mothers dragging us out of bed on spring filled mornings to begin the
yearly ritual of Spring Cleaning. But sometimes the "cleaning out" isn't always so easy. All that stuff we have tucked away in drawers, on shelves or in our closets
are snap shots of our lives. We have a certain fondness for our
stuff which cultivates feelings of wanting to hold on. There are also things in our lives we just don't want to give up
on. There are the clothes that hang is our closet representing the body we want back, or the stacks of books from our
college and graduate education bringing us back to a time when life was new and exciting. Spring cleaning is more
then just cleaning dusty rooms and buffing baseboards. Sometimes it is a
matter of letting go and moving forward.
How do we know when it is time to let go? Many of us wonder why we even need to let go. Then we peer into our closets and the reasons become painfully clear. There just isn't enough room for our past, present and definitely not our
future. The clutter and stuffed filled drawers slowly wears on our
spirit. Instead of bringing fourth fond memories, the treasures become
clutter bringing fourth feelings of irritation and self defeat. Letting
go is an art which takes creativity and action. The creativity comes in
the form of how we choose to "clear out" out the clutter. We can make a
collage of those old ticket stubs and greeting cards. Getting in touch with old wants and desires can help spring you into action.
If you don't want to give up the dream of getting into that size
six dress, then give yourself a deadline to either get that weight off or donate it to someone who could genuinely
use it. Make this spring a time to stop kidding yourself about eating a
healthy diet. You don't have to throw out you’re your old
memories. Make a date with friends and get those old photos into
scrapbooks or photo albums and start enjoying them.
Take a few moments to reflect on the following questions before beginning
this year's spring cleaning.
Spend some time reflecting
on the item or items you are having trouble discarding.
Does it represent
something you currently want in your life?
Does the item represent
a part of your life you have not resolved?
Are you holding on to a
wish or a dream not yet realized? If so, why are you not taking
steps to realize this dream?
Is this something you
really need and will you use it in the next six months?
Have you even thought
about this item is the past five years?
Does the item represent
unresolved grief? If so, are getting the support and help you need
in your grieving process?
Does the item represent
a part of yourself that you miss?

action to clear out what you have decided to part with. Here are some
great resources to help. Good Luck!

5. Shattering The Glass Ceiling
Within- Attract What You Want
Is it possible to attract success and abundance? There is a lot of discussion in our popular culture about attracting what
you want. I find it an interesting and uplifting idea. One thing does seem clear that attracting what you want is directly
related to what you focus on. If you are focusing on negative outcomes
and disastrous "what if" thinking, it is unlikely that what you want will come to you. Even if it did come, it is doubtful that you would see it since reality
is often an extension of your thoughts and beliefs.
Being open to success and abundance requires openness to the
positive flow of life. Perception is reality and if you focus on what
prevents your success then that is all you will see. However, changing
your perceptions alone is not enough. Attracting success and abundance
requires focusing your actions along with your thoughts. Spending time
complaining or worrying will never bring you the rewards you desire.
Positive action toward your goals will put you in situations where attracting what you want is
possible. The key phrase is positive action. If you want to overcome underearning or take your career to the next
level, positive action is what will help you meet your goals.
One of the biggest mysteries of the human condition is that most of
us know what we need to do; we just don't do it. Sometimes the glass
ceiling within is as thick as lead keeping your from seeing the light of your own potential and the possibilities
that you can attract. Shattering the Glass Ceiling Within
requires a shift in perception, focus and an increase in positive action.
Begin this process and you will see powerful changes in your life.
1. Conduct your own
experiment. Pick one aspect of your life that you feel is not working
right for you. Spend the next month focusing on what you want to
occur. Visualize yourself succeeding and take at least three specific
positive actions toward turning this around. At the end of the month,
reflect on your current perception of the situation. Did it
improve? What came into your life during this month of intense focus
Here are some good resources to assist you in your experiment.
